Dr. Dorothy Wilmore

Dr. Dorothy E. Wilmore is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the eldest of twelve siblings. She is a 1955 graduate of Howard High School in Wilmington, Delaware.

In 1979, she accepted the call to ministry. Significantly, Dr. Wilmore received a Bachelor of Theology, Master of Biblical Studies, Dr. of Theology, and Dr. of Philosophy Degrees from the International Seminary in Plymouth, Florida.Dr. Wilmore entered full-time ministry after serving as Social Service Specialist for the State of Delaware. For sixteen years she pastured several churches ending her tenure at the Bethany Union American Methodist Episcopal Church in New Castle, Delaware.

 

She has served as the first female President of the Ministerial Association, the first female District Superintendent of the 1st and 4th Districts, the first female President of Boulden Seminary of the UAME Church. In 2001, she published a book entitled Peter Spencer’s Movement: Exploring the History of the Union American Methodist Episcopal Church, 1805-1999. In 1999 Dr. Wilmore joined the faculty of Evangelical Theology Seminary in Orlando, Florida as Adjunct Professor.

She has been a recipient of awards from the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #12 as Past President, Community Housing, Inc. and the State of Delaware dedicated service, Bethany UAME Church for Leadership, and the Peter Spencer Award for publication, and several other recognitions for her dedicated service.

Dr. Wilmore’s colleagues confess that she has shared her knowledge and wisdom, her God given gifts, her spirit of humility and dignity and her friendship. She has displayed the great love of God, as she walked among us, and lives her life to bless the Lord that she may hear Him say, “Servant, Well Done.”
